Bell Tower In Distance

Looking up the middle of the street behind the trees, you can see the Bell Tower for ancient Xi'an. This is were they rang the bell every morning to tell the gate keepers to open the gates, and notify the people of the city that the gates were opening.

This was a daily occurance. If the bell did not ring, the gate keepers would know that the gates were to be kept closed.
