Moraine Lake
Trip Day Sixteen: June 27, 2000

Moraine Lake is 10 or fifteen miles from Lake Louise Village, and it's a worth-while side trip. If you have the flexibility in your schedule, go early in the morning. We found it full of tour busses when we were there. But, because people come and go, we didn't have trouble finding a parking spot. It might be a problem in July and August, however.

Moraine Lake

We see the typical glacier-turquoise color in this lake even as we stand on the shore. So, perhaps Lake Louise doesn't get the glacial flour that causes the coloration that it once did.

The logs along the shore have been washed down by melting snows, and then trapped by the lowering lake level water doesn't carry them over the natural spillway of the natural dam.

Pictured below is the logs piled on the natural spillway or outlet of the lake.
