Star of India, Marine Museum

October 3, 2000

Aboard the Star of India. The Star of India is the world's oldest ship still able to go to sea. She began her life on the stocks at Ramsey Shipyard in the Isle of Man in 1863.

San Diego has always been one of our favorite places. We spent our honeymoon here nearly a half century ago! We wanted to revisit the Star Of India, an old sailing ship that has been moored to the quay, and open to the public for at least that long.

Some fellow "passenger" snapped our picture aboard the Star of India.

Well, here we are now.

Some changes have taken place in the ship as well as in us.

Here she is in a picture taken from aboard our harbor cruise boat.
The marine museum also includes an old ferry boat filled with marine memorabilia, moored to the left of the Star of India, and an old British yacht not visible in this picture.
