Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse

This is the only one of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. The teahouse was given to Boulder as a sign of friendship from Boulder's sister city, Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The teahouse was handcrafted by over 40 Tajik artisans who used lavish decoration and color to express the Tajik culture. In Tajikistan, teahouses serve as community centers where people gather to drink beverages, tell stories, hear news and socialize.

Our schedule allowed only a quick overview of the city, and we enjoyed a visit to Pearn Street Pedestrian Mall which is filled with home-grown shops of all kinds. Unfortunately, like other places that have become popular shopping spots, the national chains have begun to invade, so the homogenization process has started. We ate dinner at the Cheesecake Factory — a chain that doesn't look like one. Later, I wished I had taken a picture of the table before we began to eat. Way too much food was beautifully served on a platter for each of us!
