The Louisiana Office of State Parks has beautifully recreated and illustrated this little book. Unfortunately we do not know who did the work. It offers a look into the lives of people in the 1800s. Spelling, word usage, and punctuation have changed since then. Many of the ingredients of his "receipts" are unheard of by most of us today. We can easily obtain the products needed to solve most of the problems he mentioned if they are problems to us at all today!

If you visit the plantation, for a small fee you will receive a guided tour with a very knowledgeable caretaker/guide. Perhaps this little book will be included as a memento of your visit.
