Lockport, New York

Genesee St. in Lockport

Only 25 miles northeast of Buffalo and closer to industrial Niagara Falls, this community was an industrial leader in the 19th century. In the latter 20th century some of the factories have moved to other locations.

The houses also on Genessee Street, are on the block nearest the canal—one of the oldest in town. These charming houses were not new a century ago.

Western New Yorkers should be presented awards for keeping their communities beautiful. Wherever we traveled in New York only rarely did we see a house in need of a coat of paint.
