Fort Clatsop National Memorial
Remember the explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and their famous expedition 1804 - 1806 to explore the Louisiana Purchase? This fort was built as the 1805 winter shelter for the company near the mouth of the Columbia River.

They believe the buildings were composed of four rooms on each side with a large fireplace jutting into the common area between the buildings. Light came in though the celestory windows in the cupolas atop the rooves. The windowless walls would have made the log construction easier to accomplish and they would have provided better protection from intruders.
