Columbia River Gorge
Traveling Northwest Toward Portland
Descending to the Columbia River
We were still about 50 miles from the river when we began
our descent to the river valley around 1:00 PM.
Farm in the Stanfield Area
That's about half way between Pendleton and the river.
Fertile Croplands
US-97 Bridge at Biggs Junction
At first glance, the middle of the bridge seems to be missing.
Look carefully, there actually is a span in the middle of the bridge.
Color and distance make it difficult to see in the picture.
Freight is barged on the river.
The Columbia / Snake Rivers are navigable to Lewiston, Idaho.
