This farm is where Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis spent her girlhood
after age twelve when her mother married Hugh D. Auchincloss, Jr.

Jaccqueline Bouvier made her debut at Hammersmith in 1948.
The reception was held on the west lawn of Hammersmith when she
married John Kennedy in 1953.
The farm served as the Summer White house in the years 1961 through 1963.
The unique character of Hammersmith stems from the fact that in addition
to being a summer estate of natural rustic beauth, it was the first and
is now the last working farm in the city of Newport.
