Mount Rushmore
South Dakota

Day 3, August 15, 2001

We arrived at the gate a little after 9 AM.
This isn't the actual gate. That is at the entrance to the 3-story parking building. You can walk up the stairs to gain the entry level of the monument, or you can ride an elevator.
This is way out in the country, but it's really up-town.

This is the first time that our Golden Age Passport didn't pay our admission.
We had to pay an $8 parking fee. We felt that it was well-worth it.

Recently, ten years of redevelopment work culminated with the completion of extensive new visitor facilities. These include a new Visitor Center and Museum and the Presidential Trail, a walking trail and boardwalk providing spectacular close-up views of the sculpture.

We are looking off to the hills in the distance.

After you pass through the gateway, you arrive at the Avenue of Flags
where all 50 states are represented along with plaques stating their dates of statehood.

Here's a Web site on Mt. Rushmore.
