When traveling through the area, it's well worth the time to stop in Waxahachie and see the Ellis County Courthouse. This building testifies to the fact that this has been an affluent county for a very long time.

James A. Michener, in his book, Texas, best described the Ellis County Courthouse as "A fairy tale palace, replete with battlements and turrets and spires, and miniature castles high in the air—one of the finest buildings in Texas." It is indeed a jewel of a building that has been designated as number eight on the list of outstanding architectural achievements in Texas.

The next few pages display some pictures of this building
and a few others from around the town.
