Colonel James Reid - Lecturer

Colonel James Reid was born in London and educated at Winchester College in England before attending Princeton University and the School of Political Science at the University of Paris. He followed his BA work with an MA degree from Stanford, and did doctoral work at the University of Buenos Aires.

As a regular U.S. Army officer, his troop command assignments included 155 mm Howitzer units in Korea and Nike Hercules missile units in the US. Following work at SHAPE/NATO Paris in intelligence operations, Eastern Europe from 1964 to 1967, he served in intelligence operations in Cambodia and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Legion of Merit. He then served as U.S. Military Attache' at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires during the Argentine Military governments prior to the return of Juan Peron; Colonel' Reid's final assignment before retiring in 1976 was as U.S. Military Attache' to Bolivia. He was decorated by both the governments of Argentina and Bolivia.

Since 1976 James Reid has explored remote areas of the world and has written numerous books on art, architecture, politics, and history. He has lectured in Europe, England, the USA, Canada, and South America. In Israel he was a guest speaker for a three week cultural series on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Colonel Reid speaks and writes numerous languages including Quechua, the language of the ancient Incas and of today's South American Indians, and was elected a life art member of the Paris Salon d'Automne for his oil paintings. He is also a member of the New York's Explorers Club.
