Ride the famed Tranz Alpine Express to Arthur?s Pass National Park.
WHAT YOU VISIT Tranz Alpine Express - Transfer via motorcoach to Lyttelton Railway Station and board the Tranz Alpine Express. Your two-hour train trip traverses the Canterbury Plain, before traveling through mountain tunnels, and climbing a river gorge to the beech forests of Arthur?s Pass National Park. Arthur?s Pass - You will have time on your own to explore the Information Center at a small park village at the top of Artur?s Pass. LUNCH A picnic-style box lunch will be served onboard the train or at a country venue. TEA AND SHEEP SHEARING AT DEANS FARM Meet the Deans, descendants of Christchurch?s first settlers, at their farm Sandown. Be treated to morning or afternoon tea, see a sheep-shearing demonstration and shop for woolen products. WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY See the dramatic scenery of the Canterbury Plains and the Southern Alps by train and by motorcoach as you travel to and from the ship. SPECIAL NOTES Travel is one-way by the Tranz Alpine Express Train with some narration and one-way by motorcoach with the driver/guide offering a full narration. This tour may operate in reverse order. Be prepared for changeable weather at Arthur?s Pass. |
