Sydney Harbour
Trip Day Thirty-one: Wednesday, October 24, 2007
|
Our Arrival
We had been watching the sights on the front of Baja deck since about 5 o'clock.
Gradually the details came into view in the foggy early morning sky.
By 5:32 AM we could see the famous view of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
|
This was to be an historic passing into the harbor. The Sun Princess was soon to be
the largest passenger ship ever to pass under Sydney Harbour Bridge! The water taxi making its way
across the picture accompanied us into the harbor so the passengers with press passes could get pictures
of the historic event. It hasn't been
too many years since the 77,000 ton ship was the largest ocean liner on the seas . That was back in
1995 when she was put into service. She didn't keep that record for long though.
The 104,000 ton Grand Princess was launched in 1998.
|
We seem to be heading straight downtown. Not to worry. We merely have to line up with the navigation markers in the harbor.
|
Crew members documented the event just as the passengers did.
