Along the Path

We're at the edge of the forest. These plants get a bit of sunlight here. Notice how quickly the flowering plants take over and thrive when a bit of sunlight is available.

Many of the people of Costa Rica have taken the lead in preserving their environment.
The forest is a private preserve owned by the former president.
He bought an old farm with depleted land. All he did was let it alone. It wasn't long before the forest began to grow. Now it looks like a virgin, old-growth forest.

Now he has developed the property for the enjoyment of people who want to go there and enjoy the forest. There are several rooms and cabins available for rent, and there is a restaurant and small gift shop in the visitor center.
