They don't show in the picture below, but this field had several "cattle egrets" tending to their business as we drove past. At left, in a picture of an egret, borrowed from an old copy of World Book Encyclopedia, the cattle egrets are long-necked white, bug-eating birds that stay with the cattle to keep them clean. The cattle disturb the bugs and make them available to the birds as they browse in the grass. Although not easy to capture on film from a moving vehicle, it's amazing to see each cow with her bird in pasture after pasture.
