Ready to Cast Off

The tugs wait for Sun Princess to ready for cast off. Sun Princess's thrusters fore and aft can maneuver the behemoth ship in tight quarters. So she needs no help getting away from the pier. But the tugs wait in every port in case she needs assistance in the event of a power loss. We've seen Sun Princess turn on the proverbial dime in Glacier Bay where there is no maneuvering room at the back end of those fjords.

We can see the late-comers hurrying to board the ship after an outing to San Jose. All the tours were late getting back to Puntarenas because of construction delays on the Pan American Highway.

Unfortunately, when you have two thousand passengers, someone will be injured or become too ill to continue the voyage. This happened to someone at Puntarenas. The ambulance waits to load the passanger, luggage and companion for the trip to San Jose. We were informed that the lady was to be air-lifted back to the U.S. It's comforting to know that you will be taken care of in the event that does happen. As soon as the ambulance finishes its business, we cast off and head for the Panama Canal.

Our Costa Rica pictures conclude with those on this page.
Next, our adventure takes us to the Panama Canal Zone.
Please join us for this transit of the canal.
This will be one of the last cruises to be completed before
the official handoff of the canal to Panama.
