A Photo Safari
Meerkats Mombasa Lagoon October 2, 2000
These Suricates Suricata suricatta—meercats were busy scurrying in and out of their burrows—they had many. Part of the same family as mongooses, they build extensive underground burrow systems to house their colonies. When babies are born, the entire colony looks out for them, and one adult is always left to babysit the youngsters while the rest go out on hunting parties for food. One of their favorite foods is a juicy scorpion.
