Ancient Coastal Redwood Trees

Redwood trees once dominated the coastal forests of California and perhaps Washington and Oregon. The wood is so valuable for building that the forests have been decimated by lumbering interests. The only redwoods that survive are protected in preserves. Muir Woods National Monument is one of those preserves.
