Ouray is a lovely little town
nestled in a valley below the road.
It was named after the old Ute Chief
who adopted Col. Pfeiffer and called
him out of retirement to be their
champion in the duel for Pagosa Hot Springs.
We very much wish we had stopped
here and looked for lodging.
But it didn't look much like
a visitor's town in October,
so we went on to our planned
destination for the day,
Montrose, 26 miles north.
We definitely want to come
back to check out Ouray.
