Bill Samuels, Sr. and his wife, who named the new bourbon
and his first bottle of Maker's Mark in 1958.

The Samuels family had been distilling bourbon in Kentucky since the 1840s.
Bill Sr. had his own idea about making bourbon and changed the recipe,
replacing rye with red winter wheat. This change was what made
the Maker's Mark distinctive flavor.
