This view of the rotunda shows the interior brick walls
with center air spaces to conduct warm or cool air
throughout the house. Water pipes were warmed in winter to provide
warm water to the bathrooms.
Diners at Longwood enjoyed fly free meals. A servant operated
the wooden paddle fan above the table to provide gentle
breezes that cooled the diners, and shooed the flies.
