Going To The Sun Road
Trip Day Nine: June 20, 2000
View form Overlook Above St. Mary

The Going To The Sun Road is a "must see" experience for every visitor to Glacier National Park. Although the name of the road suggests an early morning start near the west entrance to the park, and travel in an eastward direction, we went from east to west on a beautiful, sunny morning. So, we were going from the sun.

The road begins near the St. Mary's Visitor Center on the east side of the park. The vista pictured above greets the north-bound traveler on MT-49 just before dropping down the hill and St. Mary.

We begin the Going To The Sun Road at St. Mary.
