Indian Living Quarters

Fortification walls served as outside walls for the living spaces in addition to walls of the forts. Notice the trough piercing the wall near the left edge of the picture. This and those like it probably served to drain the water from the flat roof, and undoubtedly there were barrels stationed below each of these to act as cisterns to store the rain water.

The picture above illustrates an interesting characteristic of the mesquite. The limb has broken off the main plant, but it sprouted roots so that it can live as an independent plant.

These two pictures are of some of the old foundations that are scattered about. While in use, the mission had many more buildings inside the walls. These would have served a number of purposes including food and fuel storage
