Northeast of Madison Junction
Madison Junction is the junction of the park roads where US-287 turns west to go to West Yellowstone, Montana. The park road continues north through Norris Geyser Basin where it branches to go north to Mammoth Hot Springs near the north entrance, or east to Canyon Village near the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
Eons before the roads, Madison Junction was the confluence of the Gibbon and Firehole Rivers to form the Madison River in its northwestward journey.
Today we explore the north loop of Yellowstone National Park.
One of the first places we stopped was at Gibbon Falls, about 5 miles east of Madison.
