Fruit grows from trunk or major branches of the breadfruit tree.
Breadfruit is a staple food in Hawaii and many other tropical regions. They are very rich in starch, and before being eaten they are roasted, baked, fried, or boiled. When cooked the taste is described as potato-like, or similar to fresh baked bread (hence the name).

If you have never seen bananas growing, here they are growing in
a yard near the Waipo'i Valley overlook. When the fruit matures the stalk is cut down.
These plants grow in clusters much like bamboo, so when one tree is cut down there are
others there to take its place.
