Streets of Kona

We just had to see Hilo Hattie's before we left the islands. This would be our last chance. Because of the congestion on the pier as they were getting ready for the 1500 contestant Ironman Triathalon to be held the next day, the free transportation to shopping wasn't conveniently available. So we did the next best thing, we walked the 5 or 6 blocks up hill to the store. It was good for us. We hadn't walked as many miles on the promenade deck as planned.

Beautiful Landscaping

Upper left: These white flowering trees were everywhere on the islands. This is the first opportunity to get a good picture of one. If anyone knows its name please send me an e-mail so that I can identify it here.

Upper right: If these were in California, they'd call them California Fan Palms. Perhaps they call them Hawaiian Fan Palms here.

Below: This is the beautiful Bird of Paradise, that grows all over the tropics and sub-tropics.

Well, perhaps if we'd had more time to look, we could have found something at Hilo Hattie's that we couldn't live without. But as it was, we didn't. They have racks of Hawaiian shirts, but the fronts aren't matched. There was some picky reason not to buy everything we considered. Besides, we had to get back to the pier to meet the people from Blue Hawaii Helicopters for our ride over the volcano. So we won't have any Hawaiian shirts to take home.
