Island of Oahu

The North Shore
Tuesday, October 10th, 2000

These houses are near the north shore.

This is one our first glimpses of Oahu's famous north shore beaches. We're a little west of Sunset Beach, the destination for world-class surfers. The waves are quiet today.

By the way, the Hawaiians are first to tell you that nearly all the plants were imported from other parts of the world. That is true of the palm trees that seem to symbolize the islands.

This is either the Anahulu or the Kaiwikoele river on the north shore of Oahu.

Having trouble with Hawaiian names? I wish I had found Ernie's Learn to Speak a Little Hawaiian website before we went on the trip. On the ship, one speaker briefly stated the vowel sounds. We wish he had included them on the handouts he provided. If you are at all interested, I highly recommend Ernie's help.
