Lake Superior, Wisconsin

Day 5, Friday, August 17, 2001


12:44 PM. The Wisconsin Welcome Center. They want everyone to know that they recycle in Wisconsin. They're giving a good example here. Why don't all of the states do that?


By 3:40 PM we had found our way to the Superior shore at Cornucopia on the Bayfield Peninsula. Although rain threatened, a few people were enjoying the beach.

Owen contemplates the expanse of water before him. This is Lake Superior, the largest of the five great lakes. Although their water is fresh, these big bodies of water are misnamed. They are inland seas in every sense of the word.
