Mount Washington
The Way Down
Day 16: Tuesday August 28, 2001
Looking Down On The Auto Road
The tour with the company stage stays on top for 30 minutes. Unless you want to read every exhibit in the Visitor Center or participate in some other time-consuming activity, that's plenty time.
Folded Rocks Near The Top
That's exactly what they are! Eons ago when they were buried deep beneath the surface, these rocks were under great pressure to become folded. This is a common occurrence, but we just don't often get to see examples as good as these. The green color is caused by mosses that grow at this altitude.
Stunted Trees!
These trees are hundreds of years old!, but because of the fast, cold winds, the trees are stunted.
We saw trees like this in Denali National Park in Alaska.
