
Some parts of the canal are narrow cuts through the mountains.
And other parts are broad and probably somewhat shallow lakes.
The canal is a trail through this combination of environments, and the channel marker is
always at your side. If not, you're in trouble.
They were in the process of replacing the huge wheels that operate the gates of the locks.
Here are some that had been removed.
