Tree Clumps
These small clumps of Engelmann spruce all began life almost 150 years ago after the Athabasca Glacier began its retreat. Even today the galcier's cooling influence hinders the growth of plants. Short summers and harsh, cold winter winds slow the growth of plants and the soil building process.

It's 9 AM, and one bus load of tourists from Hawaii have already arrived. We joined with their group to take the shuttle bus out to the edge of the glacier where we transferred to a custom designed sno-coach for the glacier tour.

Little A Glacier
