The Neighborhood

We're standing in front of the Visitor Center looking down the hill and across manicured acres to the chapel which is not far by road from our cloud forest at Los Angeles.

Just looking at the terrain surrounding the cloud forest tells us that it is what used to cover these hills at the continental divide in Costa Rica. And that is what would cover this area if the farmers didn't keep their land cleared.

It is time to get on the road and go back to Puntarenas.

The unusual tree below announces that we are still close to the Los Angeles Cloud Forest.

A Plant Nursery!

A close look at this tree will inform of its role in life, to act as a host to many other plants! Nobody planted this "planter," it was one of several growing beside the road.

The plants growing in this one tree could decorate many American homes. These tropicals grow so easily here, that they are contributing to a new export industry.

Because of our quarantine laws, we can’t get the Costa Rican plants in the US, but they do ship them to other countries.

We were told that it’s not unusual for their customers to reship the plants to the United States.
